They are made in response to (or in the shadow of, or maybe beside) research into batteries and the materials and chemistry of storing power, histories of electrification and electrical sciences, discard and waste studies, YouTube and other DIY battery building and plastic chemistry, and a detour into transcranial direct current stimulation. They don’t mean in the way that science does, and they are not quite stories. They’ve been a useful reminder that things can change. On the afternoon of the performance at ACE Open, each caller was assigned a phone number. They were provided with instructions and a script. On receiving a text message telling them to begin, the callers contacted an audience member via mobile in the gallery and read the script to the person on the other end.
